Clapham Park Foodbank’s work over Christmas

12th January 2020

Everyone should be able to celebrate Christmas. However, for those who struggle to make ends meet – the festive period can be an incredibly stressful time.

At our Foodbank, we are acutely aware of how the festive season can stretch budgets for vulnerable families. We want to help, and as we have done in previous years, put together an ambitious program of fundraising and food distribution. Fortunately, people like you in our community were on hand to offer us overwhelming support!

Our Christmas Collection

On the weekend of November 21-23, we took part in the Trussell Trust’s national collection which is kindly hosted by Tesco each year.

On Thursday, Friday and Saturday, our volunteers greeted customers at Tesco Clapham South Side – handing our shopping lists, and encouraging shoppers to donate foodstuffs that we always run short of.

As a result of the hardwork of our volunteers, and the public’s incredible generosity – we raised 1500kg! This was enough to fill our van three times over!

Christmas Hampers!

Once we’d gathered all our food – we put it to use supporting the most vulnerable in our community. Aside from Business As Usual (we opened up every Tuesday and Friday in advent – up until Friday 20th) – our volunteers packaged up Christmas Hampers – full to the brim with festive fare.

Christmas hampers – put together by our volunteers

These were distributed to a setlist of vulnerable families and individuals in our area – compiled with the help of community partners and charities such as local GPs. We hope that our hampers – put together with your donations – gave some festive joy to local people who urgently need support.
